Freedom Recovery Gear was founded in 2019 with the vision of producing honestly rated recovery products for recreational off road vehicle drivers to increase safety in critical and potentially dangerous situations.
After three decades of technical four wheel drive adventures and competition, careers in commercial diving and equipment manufacturing, our founder, Richard Sheridan, saw more than his share of people in dangerous situations. Where are your ropes made?
All our winch lines, extensions, and soft shackles are hand-spliced in-house, using rope manufactured in an ISO 9001 facility in Canada.
Can I order a custom length?
Absolutely! We hand splice in-house, allowing for custom lengths. Please note it might take a few days to process.
What is WLL?
WLL stands for Working Load Limit — the maximum tension a product can handle. It’s derived from either MBS (Minimum Break Strength) or MTS (Minimum Tensile Strength). For synthetic rigging, the industry-standard safety/design factor is 5:1, as recommended by the Cordage Institute.
What's the difference between HMPE and Dyneema SK78?
Both fall under HMPE fibres, but Dyneema SK78 is a distinct, ultra-premium brand of fibre used in rope manufacturing.
Where are your straps produced?
Our straps and round slings are Canadian-made and tailored to our specifications.
What details are on your tags?
Our rating tags provide essential rigging information: product name, material type, WLL, MBS or MTS, batch ID for tracking, and a date or date code. Always inspect gear before use and refrain from using worn or damaged items.
